The Boom Bap Mindset

The boom bap mindset comes from a life of struggle, seeking to find a way out thru hip hop. For most cats back in the day, it went a lil sumn like this,

The year is 1993. Hip Hop is in style, mad cats are makin it big, this could be our big break.

We could finally escape the projects and get ourselves off the streets a real way, without selling drugs. Hip Hop is our ticket out.

We gotta make it big. We gotta. We gotta get moms and the fam outta this neighborhood, shit ain't safe, shit ain't clean, life is tuff. I seen cats on the screens with they gems and jewels, rappin in the videos, that could be me.

I'ma make it big. I'ma become number one. I'ma fight for that top spot so I can finally get me n my family outta here because fuck this fuck this struggle I'm tired of it

That's essentially the mindset. Obviously don't start acting like your from the projects and like life is so tuff for you, but understand that's the life a lot of these boom bappers lived. They lived in the projects, life was ruff, they saw hip hop as a way out. So what they do? Get undoubtedly raw at hip hop, so raw that their talent is unmistakably dope. Cuz then the money would be flowin. They'd have fame, girls, respect, all'a dat. And they could give their family a good life. No more struggles.

That's what the boom bap mindset really boils down to. The struggle life. A life of struggle, found hip hop as a way out. That's why I can relate to it so heavy. I grew up not having much, and wanting to have it all, so when I'd heard that shit in boom bap music it hit hard. Fell in love immediately because it spoke so much to me. It obviously wasn't the same, I was just a white boy on food stamps so in reality I had it much better, but I had nothing to compare it to so it felt real similar. I always saw myself on the low end of the spectrum, because where I was from, I was. So I was always lookin at the top from the bottom.

You gotta work hard, you gotta be dope. If not, well you're stuck here, the struggle life. Hip hop is your way out. You gotta become the best, you gotta compete against these other dawgs tryna make it too. You gotta get so good that you stand far apart from the crowd. Undeniably the goat.

That's what I believe pushed boom bap to such incredible heights. It was a fierce competition. Cats had nothing to lose and the world to gain. And you could only get there by being incredibly dope and making exceptionally good music. So they had a massive drive to create actually exceptional music.

Nowadays, shit's different, way different. Hip hop today lacks every ounce of authenticity. It's all a ploy to get more money, more listens. Back in the day that shit wouldn't slide. You had to be actually dope, or else you'd get called out and ripped apart by the fucking goat who is actually the goat.

Anyways, the mindset in summary is this:

Life is tuff and this thing called hip hop could be your way out. If you get fucking raw as shit, have the dopest, nastiest style, you could make it out and be on top. You could have it all, mad propz. Tho, it's a ruthless competition, you gotta go all out. Can't be fruntin, can't come with sum wack shit, you gotta stay true. You gotta bring the real shit, and you gotta bring it hard. Goin all out kid you know moves I never fake.
